Relationship Therapy

At Just as You Are, we get that your relationship impacts every part of your life. Whether you’re raising children, pursuing career and life dreams, or simply coping with the major and minor stressors that life throws your way, your relationship can use support, tools and nourishment.

If you find that you and your partner are arguing more and more often, have had an abrupt breach of trust, or if you are simply exploring whether you can reconnect after drifting apart, we can help you rebuild.

Just As You Are draws from the Gottman Method, using three initial assessment sessions to ensure that we tailor interventions to your specific needs. We also pull from a variety of evidence-based practices that effectively shift how you and your partner relate to each other. When your partner starts to feel like your enemy, we know it’s time for a change. Whether you and your partner need to appreciate each other more, communicate with more compassion or support one another’s dreams, there is help.

Burn out

With the advances in technology in today’s world, there is seemingly even more that we ought to keep up with and even more difficult to limit work to the confines of an office. Balancing work, family, caregiving, friendships, personal growth… all while trying to be “enough,” can create a sense of hopelessness and exhaustion.

If you are tired, overwhelmed, overworked and struggling to find meaningful change, I invite you to reach out and see if I can support you. I use evidence-based therapies to support you in noticing what changes can help you return to yourself, shift your expectations of yourself, and even shift your relationship to your thoughts and emotions.

People Pleasing

Do you often find yourself prioritizing what others need and want for fear that they will be upset? Do you chronically avoid conflict and try to read what others want or need in your relationships? Or at work? Do you sometimes struggle to even know what it is that you want?

People pleasing is a survival strategy. Somewhere along the way, you learned that making others happy (with little regard for your own happiness) was the easiest way for you to stay safe. Whether it was ensuring that your explosive teacher wouldn’t yell at you, keeping your bullies off your back, or making your struggling parent happy, people pleasing served it’s purpose.

At Just As You Are, we will work with you to uncover your core values, develop strategies to retain your thoughtful and kind ways, while redirecting some of that compassion toward yourself for a more balanced life. It will take work, and it can be uncomfortable, but a simpler way of living is possible.
